Lee Hutchison speaks with filmmaker Azazel Jacobs, the writer/director of the A24 produced film, The Lovers. Debra Winger and Tracy Letts play a long-married, dispassionate couple who are both in the midst of serious affairs. But on the brink of calling it quits, a spark between them suddenly reignites, leading them into an impulsive romance.
Azazel discusses coming from a filmmaking family and his early career in shorts and features before working on the HBO/Sky Atlantic series, Doll and Em. Azazel followed this up by writing/directing The Lovers, which was the second film after Moonlight to be produced and financed by A24. Azazel shares what it was like when A24 got involved, how they supported his creative vision and helped with the marketing and release of the film.
