Every August, George Square brims with posters and flyers from performers boldly claiming their show delivers the most amount of jokes at the Fringe. Tall Tails doesn’t make that boast but it easily could.
Five mermaids wash ashore, lured by the promise of a “camp for people-pleasers.” What follows over 45 gloriously unhinged minutes is equal parts high camp, terminally online absurdity, and pure comedic invention and I mean that as the highest compliment. The Red Kitchen Collective breathe vivid life into each mermaid, crafting distinct personalities that crackle with mischief. They conjure an undersea world brimming with puns and punchlines from groan-worthy wordplay to deep-cut references that mine every possible aquatic angle until you’re doubled over in laughter. It’s proof that nothing, absolutely nothing, is safe from a sea-themed gag. Tall Tails is one of the most original, joyously silly experiences, and irresistibly clever shows of the festival.
