Supermarket 86 follows five twenty-something woman in upstate New York who find themselves trapped overnight in a convenience store as a snowstorm rages outside. What begins as an inconvenience quickly unravels into something deeper, as each girl is connected in ways they may not yet realise.

There’s Rose, a cashier who’s stayed too long in a dead-end job while her peers have moved on; Summer, an engineering prodigy torn between staying put or pursuing a future at MIT; Dove, who arrives with secrets she’s not ready to share; June, the outspoken and loud vegan intellectual recently relocated to the area to study at Cornell; and Payton the last to arrive before the power goes out, and Rose’s ex-girlfriend. Stranded together, these five deeply entangled characters are forced to confront unresolved tensions, past decisions, and the uncertain futures waiting just beyond the store’s locked doors.

To pass the time in typically chaotic fashion, the girls crack open the vodka and dive into games like Truth or Dare and Fuck, Marry, Kill. What starts as a distraction quickly unearths long-buried truths, awkward confessions, and raw emotional tension.

Your twenties are messy and an era of identity crises, uncertain ambitions, and complicated relationships, especially when grappling with sexuality and self-acceptance. Supermarket 86 captures these growing pains with sharp insight. The five leads are like icebergs that are immense, unyielding forces shaped by their own histories, crashing into each other through sheer force of will. It’s not always graceful, but it’s powerful, and often deeply destructive.

This rogue gallery of characters highlights the pressure of trying to define yourself at an age when so little is certain. The show understands how easy it is to feel left behind, especially when peers seem to be racing ahead. Spending a few years figuring things out in a dead-end job or familiar hometown might offer comfort but it can also breed panic. In your twenties, disappointment doesn’t just sting it hits with the force of unmet potential.

Supermarket 86 shows that even in the most chaotic moments, connection and honesty can break through and sometimes, the morning after brings the first real light in a while.
