When a prestigious law firm is shaken by a sexual misconduct scandal, its most sought-after personal injury case suddenly becomes available. Framed as a decision made in the “spirit of equality,” the case sets Jeanie, Zara, and Summer - three capable women at different stages of their careers against one another in a high-stakes contest.
Jeanie, the most senior, has spent two decades at the firm without ever breaking through to partner, her loyalty met only with stalled recognition. She’s also navigating the personal fallout of her recent separation, driven by her ex-husband’s treatment of women in this workplace. Zara, a case manager, is skilled but weighed down by private struggles, Summer, the youngest, is ambitious but already hitting barriers that leave her career faltering before it has even begun. Each is convinced she has the strongest personal and professional claim to the file and each begins to strategise, scheme, and undercut the others in order to secure it. It’s here that Good for You sharpens into something more than just office intrigue. The play captures the cruel world of corporate environments shaped by patriarchy where women will find themselves pitted against each other. Instead of solidarity, the system encourages rivalry, forcing them to compete for scraps like the simple case file of someone slipping on a wet floor - hoping for recognition in a hierarchy designed to keep them beneath the glass ceiling. The strength of of the piece lies in how it shows this dynamic playing out through the quiet, everyday compromises, betrayals, and self-preservations that such workplaces demand. The audience is left questioning not the women’s integrity, but the structures that ensure ambition and survival come at one another’s expense.
